• Camp Counselor - Lead

    Reports to:  Camp Services Manager

    Compensation: Starting at $14.00 per hour

    Participate as a member of the camp staff team to enable safe and fun use of facilities, activities, and other camp functions.

    Essential Job Functions (General):

    Ensure positive experience for visiting camp groups through successful execution of activities, clear communication, helpful support, and management and care of the physical facilities and equipment.

    • Engage in frequent and consistent communication with Camp Services Manager, fellow Camp Counselors, and camp groups to receive or relay any feedback and information.
    • Utilize staff training to clearly communicate all activity and safety instructions directly to campers. Remain engaged and oversee all camper activities through completion.
    • Restock all restrooms and common areas.
    • Clean outdoor and activity areas daily to remove hazards and debris.
    • Set up activity areas and equipment as needed.
    • Clean and store gear and equipment for future use.
    • Keep pavilion and storage areas organized.
    • Drive camp vehicles carefully and responsibly.
    • Conduct a daily check and log of activity areas and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
    • After securing the situation, report any needed service, supplies or repairs, damaged equipment, or other possible hazards to Executive Director promptly.
    • Be able to demonstrate skills test in all activity areas.

    Essential Job Functions (Pond/Creek):

    • Assist campers and volunteers in accessing boating equipment.
    • Ensure all campers, volunteers, and staff are always secured in life vests at pond and enforce no swimming policy.
    • Communicate safety procedures to all campers, volunteers, and staff and ensure they are followed.
    • Keep maintenance and check in/out documents up to date.

    Essential Job Functions (Challenge Course):

    • Assist campers with access to all challenge course elements and rock wall.
    • Ensure all campers use proper spotting techniques while activity areas are in use.
    • Keep maintenance and check in/out documents up to date.

    Essential Job Functions (Archery):

    • Assist campers with access to the archery range.
    • Ensure all campers are using proper techniques while activity areas are in use.
    • Communicate range rules to all participants and ensure they are followed.
    • Keep maintenance and check in/out documents up to date.

    Emergency Action Plan:

    The emergency plan outlines the relationship between the camper organization’s staff and the camp staff for emergency management and care.

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Driver’s License.
    • Optional, but beneficial: First Aid/CPR/AED, Lifeguard, and Level 1 Challenge Course certification.
    • Training and experience in outdoor activities offered at the camp.
    • Desire and ability to work outdoors around children.
    • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
    • Physical and emotional ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant monitoring of campers.

    Physical requirements include: Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment and some physical activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.  Willingness to work irregular hours that align with camper visits. Operate under daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying water conditions.
