    Reports to:  Camp Services Manager (May also be supervised by shift leader.)

    Compensation:  Starting at $12.50 per/hr.

    Assist Shift Leader, cooks, and fellow kitchen assistants in preparing and serving nutritious meals and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dishwashing, and dining areas. Be courteous and respectful when interacting with campers, staff, and guests.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Assist in daily operation of camp food service.

    • Assist in the preparation of food as the menu indicates including washing, peeling, and cutting ingredients, stirring food in pots, and preparing beverages.
    • Set up food, food bars, supplies, and utensils for service in dining hall or offsite distribution.
    • Assist in serving meals and restocking food bars.
    • Store food and leftovers at proper temperature.

    Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.

    • Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas in kitchen.
    • Wash all dishes, serving and preparation equipment, and utensils according to regulated washing methods and temperatures.
    • Load dirty towels and rags in washer, fold, and store clean laundry.

    Assist in routine sanitation of the dining area and related equipment.

    • Clean and maintain all food-service stations, food bars, and dining tables in the dining area.
    • Remove garbage from the dining hall and kitchen.
    • Sweep and mop the kitchen and dining hall floors daily or as needed.

    Qualifications: 

    • Desire to work in the food service area.
    • Knowledge of food preparation and serving, storage of food and dishwashing.
    • Visual ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards.
    • Attention to detail and adherence to safety rules and policies.
    • Ability to operate kitchen equipment according to safe recommended methods.
    • Ability to work with an effective and collaborative team.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Preferred: Food handler’s certification.

    Physical requirements include: Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment and some physical activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate food service activities. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
