Voting Day
Election Day Polling Locations on May 19, 2026
Qualified voters will be able to cast their ballots at the following six locations. Voters may cast their ballot at any location regardless of their precinct. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• National Guard Armory (500 Tapp Road).• Barry Vandivier Center (176 Bruners Chapel Road)
• Salvisa Baptist Church CLC Building 3 (138 Kirkwood Road, Salvisa).
• McAfee Fire Station (2805 Louisville Road).
• Burgin Baptist Church (433 East Main Street, Burgin).
• The Stable at Mercer County Fair and Horse Show (560 Linden Avenue).
Drop Box Locations for Mail Ballots
Excused In-Person Absentee ballots will be taken at the Mercer County Courthouse (207 West Lexington Street). on May 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 13 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.In-Person No-Excuse Absentee ballots will be taken at the Mercer County Fair and Horse Show (560 Linden Avenue) on May 14, 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mail-In Absentee Voting
Voters are eligible to receive an absentee ballot mailed to the residential address in the county in which they are registered if their completed application is received fourteen (14) days before an election and if the voter is:
• Prevented from voting in person at the polls on election day and from casting an excused or no-excuse in-person absentee ballot on all days in-person absentee voting is conducted because he or she will be absent from the county of his or her residence all hours and all days excused or no-excuse in-person absentee voting is conducted.• A participant in the Secretary of State’s crime victim address confidentiality protection program as authorized by KRS 14.312.
• Not able to appear at the polls on election day or the days excused or no-excuse in-person absentee voting is conducted on the account of age, disability, or illness, and who has not been declared mentally disabled by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Voters are eligible to receive an absentee ballot mailed to an address different than the address listed in their voter registration record if their completed application is received fourteen (14) days before an election and if the voter is:
• A resident of Kentucky who is a covered voter as defined under state and federal law as a military-overseas voter.• A student who temporarily resides outside the county of his or her residence (ballot MUST be mailed to the residential address where the voter is residing at the time of application due to attendance at an educational institution).
• Incarcerated in jail and charged with a crime, but has not been convicted of the crime. The ballot must be mailed to the jail where the voter is in custody at the time of the application.
• Changing or having changed their place of residence to a different state while the registration books are closed in the new state of residence before an election of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, in which case the voter shall be permitted to cast a mail-in absentee ballot for electors for President and Vice President of the United States only.
• Temporarily residing outside the state but still eligible to vote in this state.
• Not able to appear at the polls on election day or the days excused or no-excuse in-person absentee voting is conducted on the account of age, disability, or illness, and who has not been declared mentally disabled by a court of competent jurisdiction. Ballots may be mailed to a facility where the voter is receiving inpatient or residential medical treatment.
Voters, or their spouse, experiencing a medical emergency within 14 days or less of an election, are eligible to receive an absentee ballot mailed to an address different than the address listed in their voter registration record if their completed application is received fourteen (14) days before an election.
Any voter qualified for a mail-in absentee ballot who does not receive a requested mail-in absentee ballot within a reasonable amount of time should contact their county clerk regarding their desire to be issued another mail-in absentee ballot.
Excused In-Person Absentee Voting
Voters otherwise eligible to vote on election day are eligible to vote an in-person absentee ballot during the six business days immediately before the last Thursday occurring before election day if they meet one of the following requirements:
• They are a resident of Kentucky who is a covered voter as defined under state law who will be absent from the county of his or her residence on the day of an election and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.• Has surgery, or whose spouse has surgery, scheduled that will require hospitalization on the day of an election and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
• Temporarily resides outside the state but is still eligible to vote in this state and will be absent from the county of his or her residence on the day of an election and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
• Is a resident of Kentucky who is a uniformed-service voter as defined under state law, confined to a military base on election day and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
• Is in her last trimester of pregnancy.
• Has not been declared mentally disabled by a court of competent jurisdiction and, due to age, disability, or illness, is not able to appear at the polls on election day and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
• Is a caregiver who is providing medical or healthcare assistance to a voter who has not been declared mentally disabled by a court of competent jurisdiction and, due to age, disability, or illness, is not able to appear at the polls on election day and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
• Is a student who temporarily resides outside the county of his or her residence and will be absent from the county of his or her residence on the day of an election and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
• Any person employed in an occupation that is scheduled to work during all days and all hours, which shall include commute time, the polls are open on election day and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
• Any election officer tasked with election administration for the current election cycle.
• Any person prevented from voting in person at the polls on election day and from casting a no-excuse in-person absentee ballot on all days no-excuse in-person absentee voting is conducted because he or she will be absent from the county of his or her residence during all days and all hours no-excuse in-person absentee voting is conducted.
Eligibility for Medical Emergency Absentee Voting
In case of a medical emergency within 14 days or less of an election, a registered voter and the registered voter’s spouse may apply for an absentee ballot. The application shall state that the emergency condition occurred within the 14 day period. The application shall be notarized. The application form may be requested by and delivered to the voter or the voter’s spouse, parents, or children. If the voter has no spouse, parents, or children, the application form may be requested by and delivered to the voter’s brother, sister, niece, nephew, or designee. The application form shall be used only by the voter. Upon receipt of the application and verification, the county clerk shall issue an absentee ballot.Online mail-in absentee requests may be filed starting Saturday, April 4, through Tuesday, May 5. Excused in-person absentee voting runs Wednesday, May 6, through Friday, May 8, and Monday, May 11, through Wednesday, May 13.
No-excuse early in-person voting is Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16.
The general election happens Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters have until 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, to register or update their registration for the general election.
For both elections, Kentucky law generally requires voter registrations to be submitted at least 29 days before Election Day if registering by mail or online.
Absentee Voting General Election
• Online mail-in absentee requests are Sept. 19 to Oct . 20.
• Excused in-person absentee voting is Oct. 21 to 23 and Oct. 26 to 28.
• No-excuse early in-person voting is Oct. 29 to 31.The deadline to file for nonpartisan or independent candidates for the Nov. 3 general election is Tuesday, June 2, by 4 p.m.
The deadline for anyone who wants to declare as a write-in candidate is Monday, Aug. 24, by 4 p.m. The offices of mayor and city commissioner are non-partisan offices.
