Exhibition Shaker Village
The official opening of an exciting new exhibition, revealing the surprising story of the Pleasant Hill fossil hunters and their excavation of a prehistoric mammoth.
Kentucky made history in more ways than one when ancient animals were discovered by early paleontologists in the 19th century. The Pleasant Hill Shakers were fascinated by the fossils they unearthed along the Kentucky River Palisades and in their fields. Remarkably, they discovered a large mammoth skeleton in November 1860. Learn about this exciting and surprising story straight from the Shaker journals and see examples of prehistoric fossils found throughout the region.
