The reentry simulation that Goodwill uses was developed by the Kentucky Department of Corrections\, and it gives participants a small glance into the struggles that people can face after incarceration. The simulation is a highly interactive experience designed to help participants begin to understand what a typical client experiences upon release and the struggles to survive and not go back to incarceration.\n\n \n\nThe simulation takes about two hours\, and during that time\, participants play the role of a former justice involved citizen. Each participant is given a background and goals/tasks to be accomplished. During the two-hour simulation\, clients will "live a month" in the lives of a person reentering society. Each week\, you (clients) will be expected to accomplish your goals\, and will be evaluated by the simulation team at the end of each fictional week.\n\n \n\nGoodwill sees people on a daily basis that are struggling with barriers that make finding employment difficult. Many of these clients were previously incarcerated\, and they have seen their struggles. Once Goodwill obtained the knowledge of their struggles\, they wanted to bring it to light in the communities they serve. \n\n \n\nAs a chamber\, we understand that every business has unique needs\, but a common requirement is the necessity for employees. We welcome you to explore the challenges faced by this specific demographic or talent pool when it comes to securing employment. Step into their shoes and discover some of the barriers they encounter.
