Some modifications have been made to our Halloween plans here at the Harrodsburg Police Department. We will still be handing out candy and celebrating Halloween, but not exactly as we had planned.
We had hoped that the virus would be better under control and allow us to host our Halloween Bash just like last year with some additional safety precautions, but unfortunately, that just is not the case. For the safety of our children and their families, we will sadly have to postpone our games and bouncy houses until next year.
Instead, we will be having a drive-thru trick or treat. Children will be trick-or-treating from their parent's vehicles in our parking lot between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm, Saturday, October 31st. Vehicles will be directed to travel in a set pattern for the safety of the volunteers.
The pumpkin contests will take place as planned. The pumpkins will be displayed for viewing by the passing vehicles. Winners will be contacted with instructions on how to claim their prizes, as well as be announced on our Facebook page with a photo of the winning pumpkins.
The costume contests will still take place but will no longer be in person. Costume contest entries should be submitted by photo and emailed to lpeyton@harrodsburgpd.org, with the name and age of the child, contact information for the parents, and include a brief description of the character they are dressing up as (for example Elsa, Black Panther, werewolf, zombie). Costume contests and the age group for the child should be listed in the subject line.
Parents may also stop by the Harrodsburg Police Department with their little ghouls in costume on Thursday, October 29th (8:30 am to 4:00 pm), Friday, October 30 (8:30 am to 4:00 pm), and Saturday, October 31st (10:00 am to 2:00 pm) for a picture to be taken by police department staff for entry into the contest. Photos of the winners will be posted on the department's Facebook page and winners will be notified with instructions on how to pick up their prizes.
All photos submitted will be displayed on the windows outside the police department. Facebook live 'might be' utilized to show the pumpkins and also during the drive-thru trick-or-treat.
